Professional Ethics: Safeguarding The Service To The Consumer

This project aimed to encourage research on professional ethics at a national level to evaluate the situation at a local context and disseminate information so an action plan can be devised on the current challenges and difficulties.

Date: 30th November 2018

The Malta Federation of Professional Associations strongly feels that our sector’s strict adherence to ethical values constitutes much more than a mere legal obligation. It is for us the ultimate guarantee of high-quality service to the consumer and the cornerstone of a relationship of trust between the professional and the clients/patients. One of the current most important objectives of MFPA is to develop initiatives that accentuate professional ethics at a national level and including collaboration with member EU states. It is our contribution to a competitive and ever-growing economy that remains at the service of citizens.

In 2018 MFPA was awarded funds under the scheme Voluntary Organisations Projects Scheme (VOPS) managed by the Malta Council for Voluntary Sector (MCVS) to implement the project Professional Ethics: Safeguarding the service to the consumer. This project aimed to encourage research on professional ethics at a national level to evaluate the situation at a local context and disseminate information so an action plan can be devised on the current challenges and difficulties. Two different surveys were carried out. The first was held amongst university students and new graduates to evaluate their perception on the importance of professional ethics. The second research looked at the end user’s perceptions on services offered by professionals in Malta. A conference to present the findings was held on 30 November 2018.
